Mexico customs when buying from China with an agent (2026)
How taxes work when a parcel from China, shipped by a shopping agent, arrives in Mexico, as of October 2026. Rules change: always check the official source.
The 33.5% global rate
Since 15 August 2025, courier shipments up to USD 2,500 from countries without a trade agreement with Mexico (China included) pay a 33.5% global rate on their value. It used to be 19%.
The under-USD-50 exemption only applies to parcels from the US and Canada. A parcel from China pays from the first dollar.
Who collects it
The courier calculates and collects the tax on import. Depending on the shipping line, you pay on delivery or it's included in what the agent charges. Ask your agent whether its line to Mexico includes taxes before shipping.
Over USD 2,500
Above that value it's no longer a courier import and needs a formal import through a customs broker — not worth it for personal purchases.
Replicas
Customs can detain goods that infringe a registered trademark, even if taxes were paid. What's in the parcel is your responsibility.
- Declare the real value. Undervaluing is illegal and can lead to seizure or a fine.
- Keep the agent's invoices and the tracking number.
